Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
